Days seem to fly by in second grade. We have been busy workers and thinkers. I can’t believe the first quarter of second
grade has been completed. Your child is
coming home with his/her report card this afternoon. I hope you sit down with your child and
celebrate all his/her successes in the first nine weeks of school. I am appreciative of the diligent work and
great attitude for learning your child puts forth each and every day. The children are learning and recognizing the
work they do in school, honors and
pleases God! I look forward to next
week’s Parent-Teacher conferences. It is my joy to share with you your child’s
successes.
Here are some things I would like to highlight about our
school days:
In Science this week we started learning about Land Forms
and Bodies of water. We marvel at the
many different surfaces of earth God has given us to enjoy. Your child has been busy working with a partner
on a small research project by reading an article on a website called
‘facts4me’. They have learned three new
facts about a landform and created a Keynote presentation on their i-pads. This is impressive work for 7 and 8 year
olds!
In reading, the next month your child will be learning and
reviewing many different strategies for figuring out tricky words. Some of these strategies are: flipping the sound, context clues, picture
clues, sliding through the word, find a smaller word inside the larger words,
and phonics rules. Your child is
becoming quiet the problem solver during reading.
As part of our good
behavior award, we made reading tents today. I must say, they were very creative tents.
However, they sure enjoyed reading inside them!
